Our Lives, Our Way 2013-2023 - a new learning disability plan for Moray

Overview

The plan Our Lives, Our Way is about ways of helping people with learning disabilities and family carers to have a good day every day. It is about the kind of support people with learning disabilities said would help them to have the same opportunities in life as other people.

People with learning disabilities, their families and other people who support them helped write the draft plan by taking part in focus groups and meetings of the Moray Learning Disability Partnership.

Once we had a draft plan we wanted to make sure people were happy with it and supported it.

The consultation on the draft plan closed on 24 January 2014.

Feedback

We asked:

We asked people if the plan was right, if they felt anything was missing and asked them for any other comments they had.

You said:

24 people took part in the consultation. Everyone was happy with the plan. A few people made comments which included: how we think about risk;the importance of respect in relationships; moving on from service into employment; funding for services; the need for information to be easy to understand; and the importance of including children and their parents in planning services.

We did:

We made some small changes to the draft plan and most of the comments will be taken forward in the actions set out in the delivery plan.

The public involvement officer will support staff to engage with children, young people and families on how to support them in the ongoing strategy process and action planning.

The final plan was approved at a meeting of the Moray Council Health and Social Care Committee on 10 September 2014. The action plan has been developed with staff working in this field and will continue to be reviewed and updated as targets are met and new actions identified over the lifetime of the plan.

The Moray Learning Disability Partnership will check that the things written in the plan do happen over the next 10 years. The board brings together different people who want to make learning disability services better for everyone now and to plan for the future.

Everyone is welcome along to meetings of the board which happen at least four times a year. Click on the partnership link above to find out more.
