Licence Summary

To operate a public weighbridge, you require a certificate of competence issued by the Chief Inspector for Weights and Measures for The Moray Council.

Eligibility Criteria

You must have sufficient knowledge for the proper performance of your duties.

Anyone applying for a Certificate must pass a verbal and practical test to show they can:

    1. Operate the weighbridge satisfactorily and complete any weighbridge tickets and associated documentation
    2. Understand the basic terms associated with the operation of the weighbridge
    3. Identify potential frauds which may unknowingly be assisted by a weighbridge operator
    4. Understand the importance of accuracy when operating a weighbridge by performing simple arithmetic (use a calculator if permitted)

Application Evaluation Process

Application Evaluation Process – Once your completed application is received, the Council will send a Trading Standards Officer to carry out a test.  Once satisfied a certificate of competence will be issued within 7 days.

Failed Application Redress

You may appeal to the National Measurement Office if your application is refused.

Consumer Complaint

We would always advise that in the event of a complaint the first contact is made with the trader by you - preferably in the form a letter (with proof of delivery). If that has not worked, if you are located in the UK, Citizens Advice Consumer Service will give you advice. From outside the UK contact the UK European Consumer Centre.

Other Redress

E.g. about noise, pollution, etc. Also should one licence holder complain about another.
