Apply for Council Housing

We allocate our properties in line with our Allocations Policy.  This policy sets out the framework we use to allocate council housing while taking into consideration the needs, demands and aspirations of applicants.  In line with guidance and good practice, we review our Allocations Policy every three years.  Following the most recent review, agreed changes were made to the Allocations Policy from 1 April 2024.  If you have a housing application with us, or are considering applying for housing with us, these changes could affect you.

If you have a housing application you will need to log into your account on or after 1 April 2024 and review your application.  Any changes to your application may mean that the points you are awarded also change.  This may also change your position on the housing list. .

We allocate our new build properties using a Local Lettings Plan.

Before you apply please read our leaflet "Housing Allocations Policy and Points System" and  / or our Easy Read Allocations Policy.  These will tell you about the application process, including what types of decisions can be reached based on your own circumstances.

If you want to be considered for housing with us you will need to register and create a Housing Online account and select the relevant option:

To create a new application Select Create Housing Application
To continue with an application which has only been partially completed Select Incomplete Housing Application
To update and amend an application which has been completed and submitted already Select Update my Contact Details and if all of your details are correct, select Completed and Accepted Housing Application

Once your application has been accepted and assessed

You will be placed on our housing list.  When you reach the top of the housing list and if there is a suitable vacancy in the areas you have chosen, then we will make you an offer. We will send you the offer letter to the email address you gave on your application.  You will have four working days to tell us if you are interested in the offer or if you want to refuse it.

If you refuse two reasonable offers of accommodation within a period of one year, we will not make any other offers of housing for six months from the date of your last offer.

Applications will be valid for 12 months.  If you do not keep your application up to date, your name will be removed from the waiting list, but you can reapply at any time.

Due to such high demand for council properties, you could be waiting a very long time for a property. It’s important to check what other housing options are available.

Please Note - You will not be able to use Internet Explorer to make this application using the blue button below.  You will need to use a different search engine such as Google Chrome for example.
