NESS energy from waste

The NESS energy from waste facility, located in East Tullos, processes non-recyclable waste from Moray, Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire councils, produces electricity for the national grid, and will provide heat for a local district heating network. Waste taken to the facility is burned cleanly and completely, meeting strict EU emission standards.

The three councils remain committed to recycling as much as they can with recycling schemes and sorting facilities, either planned or in place across the North East. Visit our recycling and waste pages to find out more about how to sort your waste.

The facility aligns with Scotland’s vision of becoming a zero waste society. As a shared project, the facility costs less and provides the best value for all three councils.

Waste from Aberdeenshire and Moray is delivered via the AWPR, and gets to the site through East Tullos Industrial Estate via Wellington Road. Waste from within Aberdeen is delivered directly to the facility by our teams after they’ve emptied your bins.

The facility is operated by Indaver on behalf of the three councils. For enquiries contact projectteam@nessenergy.co.uk.
