Support for adopters and adoptees
We are here to support children, adoptive parents and birth relatives throughout the adoption process, and after adoption has taken place. Adoption is complex and emotionally demanding for all involved, therefore it is essential you feel able to access support from the outset for both you and your child.
Adoption is life changing and lifelong for all concerned. Families affected by adoption may ask for an assessment of need and Moray adoption team can be contacted at any time. The team will respond within four weeks of the request being received and an assessment will take place within 12 weeks.
We are committed to providing a range of ongoing supports to help you meet the needs of any child placed with you and to ensure that you grow and flourish as an adopted family:
- Ongoing support from a qualified adoption social worker from the start of your adoption journey
- Opportunities to meet with staff and other adopters to talk about adoption to ensure it is right for you
- Financial support if required
- Access to counselling services
- Buddy scheme which links you in with an experienced adopter
- Support provided directly through the Moray Council`s membership of Adoption and Fostering Alliance Scotland
- Supported access to the CAHMS service

- Training opportunities which fits in with your on-going commitments and needs
- Support to access information from other professional bodies such as medical, education and legal

The above indicates support generally available, however specific support will be assessed and agreed as part of a formal plan.
