Experiences of those who’ve adopted, or been adopted
Here we have people who have gone through the adoption journey describe some of their experiences:
“Myself and my husband started our adoption journey over 11 years ago. We are very blessed with our wee boy who is now 10!
“The prep course is quite intense but it needs to be like that as nothing is kept back from you and you are not misled in any way the children who are up for adoption. We got on really well with our Social Worker at that time, and by the end there was nothing she didn’t know about us, our family or our lives.
“The home study goes into every aspect in your life and all I would say is to trust your social worker, they are doing their job and only need to make sure that the child or children you are matched with and their needs are suitable for the life you live and for the child.
“It is good to have a good support network as you will need them. We have been very blessed with our wee boy and have had no major issues to deal with.
“Although we have finished that part (assessment stage) we have had fantastic support from our current social worker and it’s good to know that the social worker is still there to help and support you.”

“I am adopted, I am very grateful to have received support from the Moray adoption social work team during my teenage years. I was struggling to understand my feelings, figure out who I was as a person, or where I fit in society but with my social workers support and guidance I was finally able to explore these factors and make sense of them.
“My social worker inspired and motivated me and made me feel listened to and understood. I was also empowered to make my own decisions regarding my support and have choices.
“I was given opportunities that I never knew was possible which I really feel contributed to positive changes in my life.”
