Burnie Centre
About the Service
Burnie is a purpose built centre which opened in 2006. We are located at 28 Highfield Road, Buckie.
Burnie provides a Day Service to Adults with Learning Disabilities and is a resource for a number of community and social groups. The building is “barrier free” to allow ease of access for all those attending.
Burnie is staffed by a professional team consisting of Service Manager, Senior Day Centre Officer, Day Centre Officers, Care Assistances, Catering and Admin staff.
In addition to the centre staff there are many support agencies that play a significant role helping families and service users with all aspects of care, support and guidance.
Care Manager – Based within the centre appointments can be made to see them at Burnie or to arrange home appointments.
Community Learning Disability Team- A dedicated team of professionals from Health and Social Work back grounds, including: Community Nurses, Psychiatric / Psychology services, Speech and Language Therapist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Care Managers, Dietician, Epilepsy specialist.
The Service Provides:
The service provides a wide range of therapeutic, experiential and social opportunities. The group and vocational activities are used to encourage self advocacy, confidence building, assertiveness and other social skills. Above all we want people to enjoy their time spent at Burnie. Service Users and families are encouraged to play
an active part in the service development and individual plans.
