FOI Request - Temporary Accommodation and Void Properties

To request the following information regarding temporary accommodation and social housing provision within your authority.

1. Expenditure:

Please confirm the total amount spent by the council on temporary accommodation placements within the private rented sector during the most recent full financial year.

2. Void Properties (Temporary Accommodation):

Please confirm the current number of void (unoccupied) properties that the council has within its temporary accommodation portfolio.

3. Subsidy Loss:

Please provide the total subsidy loss related to temporary accommodation for the most recent full financial year.

4. Families Awaiting Placement:

Please state the current number of families awaiting suitable temporary accommodation.

5. Empty/Decanted Properties for Regeneration:

Please provide the number of council-owned properties currently empty or decanted and awaiting regeneration or redevelopment.

1. Nil return - we do not use the private rented sector to provide temporary accommodation. Our temporary accommodation stock comprises of council and RSL owned hostels and council properties dispersed over the authority.

2. As of 11/12/25 we have 7 void temporary accommodation properties.

3. There is only one hostel which loses subsidy for us year on year due to the cap applied of 90% of the Local Housing Allowance. The subsidy loss for 24/25 was £120,931.20 in total.

4. As of 11/12/25, we have 0 families awaiting a temporary accommodation placement.

5. We currently have a total of 47 council owned properties which are empty. This figure comprises of 19 properties which are in our void system and are in the process of being allocated or worked on. 21 Long Term voids awaiting regeneration/development and 7 temporary accommodation voids.
