1.  At the time of this request, how many adults are currently on a social housing waiting list in this council area?

2.  At the time of this request, how many children are currently on a social housing waiting list in this council area?

3.  In relation to question 1, what is the longest period of time an adult has waited to be offered social housing in this council area?

4.  In relation to question 2, what is the longest period of time a child has waited to be offered social housing in this council area?

Response 02-10-2024

1. As at 12 September 2024, there are 5097 adults on the waiting list (within 3516 applications)

2. As at 12 September 2024, there are 2221 children on the waiting list (within 1210 applications)

3. As at 12 September 2024, the longest time an adult has been on our housing list for is 36 Years.  

4. As at 12 September 2024, the longest time a child has been on our housing list for is 13 Years.  

In relation to Q3 and Q4, with the exception of homeless households, who are normally re-housed in date order; we operate a needs-based allocations policy. The total number of points on the application determines the position on the housing list at any given time, and we do not award any points associated with length of time spent on the list. An applicant’s circumstances may worsen or improve during the life of their housing application, and this means their total number of points may be reassessed and their position can change frequently. Our response relates specifically to Moray Council’s own housing list. This means our response only includes those seeking an offer of Council housing.  
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide information on the housing lists of other social housing providers operating in Moray. For that information, you would need to contact housing associations/registered social landlords (RSLs) directly. Please note, there will be duplication where applicants have applied to several social housing providers to maximise their chance of an offer of housing.
