The household recycling rates for all Scottish authorities is published by SEPA yearly, usually in September for the previous year. This information is therefore exempt under section 25 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, information otherwise accessible. For ease of reference please find a link to the web page here: https://www.sepa.org.uk/environment/waste/waste-data/waste-data-reporting/household-waste-data/
In order to be helpful please see below a summary of the household recycling rates as recorded by SEPA for Moray for the following calendar years:
2015 | 57.4% |
2016 | 59.1% |
2017 | 57.8% |
2018 | 57.4% |
2019 | 59% |
2020 | No data |
2021 | 52.2% |
2022 | TBA this September |
Bin collections within Moray are currently:
Every 3 weeks for domestic waste and domestic recycling.
Every 2 weeks for food waste. This also has the option of adding garden waste as a co-mingled collection after purchasing a yearly garden waste pass.
There are over 100 runs with collections of both waste and recycling, with collections of both streams happening 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year apart from Christmas day, Boxing day, New Years day and 1st Jan We do not currently have any data on which runs are poor performing for recycling as waste and recycling routes do not fully mirror image each other.
With regards to infrastructure: We have 4 household waste recycling centres, one in each major town, one main waste transfer station, 4 smaller unmanned recycling centres and various recycling points across the County.
