FOI Request - Racism at Schools

1.  How many incidents of racist abuse have all schools in your council recorded (including on the SEEMiS Click and Go system) annually for the last five academic years (2017/18 to 2022/23)?

2.  If possible please provide a few examples of what kind of racist incidents were recorded.

I would like the above information to be provided to me in a table format on a searchable document or spreadsheet.

1. Bullying & equalities incidents reported for 2020/21, 2021/22 and 2022/23 to date. The incidents included were for the following two perceived reasons - RACE AND RACISM INCLUDING CULTURE and RELIGION OR BELIEF.

2017/18: 26 
2018/19: 15  Please note, the information for these two years is published in a previous FOI Request and is therefore exempt under Section 25 – Information Otherwise Accessible. 

2019/20: 13

2020/21: 16
2021/22: 14
2022/23: 33

2. Please note that SEEMIS reports only provide top level data and no further detail of the circumstances of an incident. For any more detailed information every single pupil file would need to be looked at. This task would cost the Council in excess of £600 of staff time. In accordance with section 12 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (excessive cost), we are therefore unable to comply with this part of the request.
