FOI Request - Waste Recycled

Request 101003337157

I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act regarding the amount of domestic waste processed and recycled in 2022.

I am interested in understanding how much waste is being generated and what steps are being taken to reduce it. Specifically, I would like to know:

•  The total amount of domestic waste processed by your council in 2022

•  The total amount of domestic waste that was recycled by your council in 2022

I understand that local councils may have different methods for measuring and reporting waste data, so any details or explanations you can provide about your reporting process would be greatly appreciated.

Response 23-06-2023

1. 48,170.39 Tonnes

2. Total amount of domestic waste from our household collections and Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) that was recycled was 28,583.13 tonnes. Total amount of domestic waste from our household collections and Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) that was land filled was 19,587.26

As a Scottish Local Authority we have to report all our waste data to SEPA via a standardised Waste Data Flow tool. This information is then freely accessible on the SEPA website via the following link: https://informatics.sepa.org.uk/HouseholdWaste/

Note that the yearly figures on this site currently only go up to 2021 as the final 2022 figures are undergoing reconciliation checks and will be published in due course.
