1)  Since 2019 how many fires have there been at council run, or sites used by the council, recycling facilities?

2)  Of these fires, how many were caused by electrical items?

3)  How many of these fires resulted in fatalities, injury or significant damage to the property?

4)  What are the current safety measures in place to deal with fires at the site?


Response 31-03-2023

1) Between 2019 and Feb 2023 we have had 3 small fires at our landfill site and its associated Household Waste Recycling Centre.

2) Not held. Moray council do not personally assess nor confirm the cause of fires. Information that is not held falls under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 - Information not held. 

However, based on information received from Scottish Fire and Rescue Service: One suspected to be caused by electrical items.  One confirmed as being caused by electrical equipment, and One confirmed as being caused by discarded safety flares.

3) Not held. No fatalities, injuries or significant damage caused. Information that is not held falls under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 - Information not held.

4) All site attendants have procedures to follow in case of emergencies, including fires.
