FOI Request - Teacher Strikes - Money Saved in Teacher Salaries
Request 101003260974
Teachers in Scotland have been striking for an improved pay offer since 24 November when the EIS teaching union held its first national strike day. Since a mix of national and targeted strike action has taken place. On strike days teachers do not get paid by their local authority employers so I would like to understand how much Scottish councils have saved on teacher salaries to date as a result of the industrial action.
Therefore I would be grateful if you could provide the following information under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
For each teacher strike day that has taken place so far in your authority can you please set out:
- The date of the strike action
- The teaching unions taking part
- How many teachers were striking on each day
- And for each strike day the amount of money saved by the council on teacher pay
The response should include both national strike days and targeted strike days with the details of the money saved on teacher pay set out clearly for EACH DAY.
The response should include the money saved in salaries on the first teacher strike day – 24 November 2022 – and should also include the money saved on the national strikes being held by the EIS and NASUWT Scotland yesterday and today (28 February and 1 March 2023). All other strike days between those dates should also be included.
