FOI Request - Supported Study/Technician Support

Request 101003260842

I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act.

Firstly, I seek an outline of the pay offered to teachers who are willing to undertake additional classes, such as Supported Study or Home Tuition.

NASUWT policy is to secure the introduction of a nationally-applied, consistent system of where all teachers are properly remunerated for this time and at the same rate, regardless of where they work. There is, however, a huge discrepancy in how systems of Supported Study/Home Tuition operate across local authorities: in some areas, teachers are paid at their full salary rate; in other areas, teachers receive a reduced rate of payment, or indeed no payment at all. Often, teachers feel pressured into undertaking this additional work, even where it may be classified as ‘voluntary’.

I would like Moray Council by return to specify their current approach to Supported Study/Home Tuition, specifically, the rates that are currently payable and in what circumstances (along with any plans to change these).

Secondly, I would like Moray Council to confirm whether any Secondary schools currently provide Technician support for Home Economics teachers and, if so, to what level (ideally, the FTE equivalent of Technician support provided).  I would also like confirmation of the level of Secondary Technician support across different STEM subjects as a comparison on a school-by-school basis (again, ideally, by reporting the FTE equivalent Technician support provided).

We allocate Main grade Teacher salary point 2 for all study support. This is paid to all those undertaking additional hours for study support and there are no current plans to change this.

The formula for technicians is as follows:

Technicians – If roll >599, (3 x Gd6) + (1.44 hrs x Gd 3 hourly rate x roll)
                               ≤599, (2 x Gd 6) + (3 hrs x Gd 3 hourly rate x roll)

We have ICT and AV Technicians
Science and AV
Technical and AV
