FOI Request - Publicly Accessible Green Space Owned By Council

Request 101003084716

I would like to make a freedom of information request. Please could you provide in writing:

1. The total area of publicly accessible green space currently owned by the council. By green space, I mean areas which are primarily covered in grass, meadow, woodland, marshland, beachland etc, including parks. It would not include areas which are primarily covered in tarmac or concrete even if they have incidental planting of trees or other greenery.
2. The same figure as it was on 1 January 2012
3. The same figure as it was on 1 January 2002

Ideally these figures would be provided in square kilometres or square miles.

Response 24-06-2022

1.The total area of publicly accessible green space currently owned by the council as recorded on the property database is 594 hectares.

Road verge areas are not included in the figures provided as those are generally not owned by the Council.  The road and associated verges are vested with the roads authority under the terms of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984.

2. Not held. Information that is not held falls under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 - Information not held.
