1. Can you tell me the five roads in your council area that have received the highest number of complaints about potholes, broken down by road, for each of the past five years 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017?

2. Can you also tell me the total number of pothole complaints received by the council in each of the past 10 years 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012?

3. Can you tell me the five roads in your council area that have received the highest number of potholes fixed broken down by road, for each of the past five years 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017?

4. Can you also tell me the total number of pothole repairs received by the council in each of the past 10 years 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012?

5. Can you tell me how many miles of road the council is responsible for maintaining?

6. Can you also tell me how many claims have been made against the council for pothole damage in each of the last five years 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017 and how much was paid out, broken down by year.

Complaints concerning carriageway defects are recorded in such a way that potholes are not a recorded as a separate category. However we can confirm that some complaints specified the word ‘pothole’, of which for each year there were the following number:

2012 - data not available
2013 - 1
2014 - 3
2015 - 2
2016 - 2
2017 - 5
2018 - 5
2019 - 1
2020 - 2
2021 - 1

Of these, there are no repeat complaints concerning a particular road

3. Potholes are recorded under the wider category of carriageway defects. Please see attached excel sheet report on the number of carriageway defect orders completed on each Unique Street Reference in Moray - showing the top 5 (in terms of number of defects repaired) for each of the years here.

4. In accordance with Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 we can confirm that the requested information is not held. Please note the closest data we have is the expenditure against our patching budgets, which for the purpose of providing reasonable assistance to FOI enquirers. However it is important to note that not all of these costs will be regarding potholes.  Please see attached excel sheet – Number of Completed Carriageway Defects.
