FOI Request - Pothole Reports, Repairs and Compensation

Under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 I wish to request the following information:

1) How many potholes have been reported to the council in each of the last five financial years?
2) How much money has been spent on pothole repairs in each of the last five financial years?
3) How much money has been paid out in compensation to motorists who have reported needing repairs on their vehicle as a result of a pothole?

1. This information is not held and is therefore exempt under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002. In order to be helpful we can advise that the closest data we have is the number of defects/enquiries logged which are categorised as ‘carriageway defects’. Please note not all of these instructions will be regarding potholes, and also some instructions may have been reporting several carriageway defects in the vicinity.  Please see attached Excel sheet showing number of defects/enquiries logged per financial year.
               
2. This information is not held and is therefore exempt under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002. In order to be helpful we can advise that  the closest data we have is the expenditure against our patching budgets. However it is important to note that not all of these costs will be regarding potholes.  Please see attached Excel sheet showing information breakdown per financial year.
