FOI Request - Rejected Street Names

Request 101002866881

I would like to know details of any unsuccessful applications to name/rename streets from 2016 to date.

IF possible I would like the information to be broken down on a month-by-month basis with details of the proposed name, and if available the reasons for rejection.

Response 09-09-2021

On 30th May 2017 the Planning and Regulatory Services Committee approved the Revised Street Naming and Property Numbering/Naming Policy and Procedure Appendix 1 (pdf), this can be viewed here. The policy sets out our process for street naming and renaming, sections A and D of Part 3.

We have had no unsuccessful applications to rename streets from 2016 to date.

The selection and approval of street names is at the discretion of Elected Members who have involvement as Ward members and members of the Planning & Regulatory Services Committee. Street names should meet the criteria within Part 3 Section A. Developers sometimes provide street names for inclusion through the planning process and members of the public can suggest names through their Elected Members. These suggestions are then held and then provided to Elected Members when suitable developments progress to the Street Naming and Numbering stage. Due to the criteria street names should meet in Part 3 Section A and the discursive nature of the Elected Members involvement any unsuitable names may be removed prior to any formal application being submitted.
