Request 101002048226

Please can you send me information on Moray Council's funding of the Moray Leisure Centre. As a private business receiving council funding in light of all the cuts.
1. I would like to know how much the funding is per year and why it is given.
2. Also what funding Moray Council has given to the Moray Leisure Centre for their current refurbishments and the reasoning behind this.
3. Also what funding has been given to the Moray Leisure Centre for the introduction of the fitlife cards.

Response 21-02-2019

1. Deficit funding is provided per annum  for the provision of sports, leisure and recreation services.  The funding figure changes each year depending upon the expected deficit.  For this year the figure was £698,000.

In addition this year the Council agreed an additional £146,000 in order to support a recovery plan.  This was a one off payment.

It should be noted that the Council's directly managed leisure facilities also require deficit funding.

2. A loan of £500,000 was provided for the refurbishment of the gym and fitness area .  This work involved the purchase of new equipment and building works.  This was also part of the agreed recovery plan.  It was regarded as important for future sustainability Moray Leisure Centre remained competitive and was able to both retain and grow its customers in an increasingly competitive market.

3. No funding has been given for the introduction of Fit Life cards.  However, joining the Fit Life scheme was a requirement of the recovery plan.
