People 1st – Sector Skills Council for Hospitality, Passenger Transport, Travel, Tourism and Retail
People 1st are the sector skills council for hospitality, passenger transport, travel, retail and tourism in the UK and represent the employers across all aspects of vocational skills training [VET].
We deliver labour market research, policy direction and specific qualification and standards development. We are responsible for the development and implementation of Modern Apprenticeships for the sector and for ensuring all VET provision is fit for purpose. People 1st have developed some additional programmes to support pre-employment provision and the needs of employers. One of these is Employment 1st which can be stand alone or offered with the BIIAB Award; Introduction to the Hospitality Industry or with the Certificate of Work Readiness.
In both cases the programme is 2 weeks followed by a supported work placement. It focuses on employability skills and industry knowledge as well as 5 certificated elements. This is followed by a 2 to 7 week supported work placement.
Through their extensive employer contacts, People 1st can then ensure a smooth progression into work and onto a Modern apprenticeship programme. In addition we have agreements in place with national employers to guarantee an interview to successful candidates of the Employment 1st programme in the UK.
Our aim is to work in collaborative partnerships bringing together employers, providers and referral agencies to offer the best possible opportunities to young people with realistic job outcomes. People 1st is currently supporting the roll out of WorldHost in Moray and helping the region to confirm its commitment to world class customer service.
The target is a guaranteed job interview for every successful candidate. Outcome for each candidate;
- Employment 1st certificate
- Optional BIIAB Award; Introduction to the Hospitality Industry and/or Certificate of work readiness
- Food Hygiene certificate
- Health and Safety Certificate
- WorldHost Customer service Certificate
Working with referral agencies to identify young people and select and recruit effectively. Employers involved from first stages and agree to guarantee an interview to successful candidates. Experienced providers for the employability programme plus identified progression onto Modern Apprenticeship with experienced provider.
- Stage 3 - Vocational Activity and work focussed training. Employment 1st/AIEHI
- Stage 4 – People 1st works with employers across the HLTT sector to secure agreements that guarantee an interview to successful candidates. People 1st also provide a link onto an MA in hospitality
Cost of workbooks, registration and certification of candidates approximately £50 per candidate. The training provision can be covered by Employability Funding.
