Support Available

Caring for children can be hugely rewarding but there can be times when extra help is needed.

Our Kinship Team provides personalised support to you and the child in your care for as long as you need. This includes:

  • social events and peer support
  • financial support for approved kinship carers
  • advice and guidance
  • support, learning and training for approved carers
  • information about other relevant services and organisations
  • access to other resources and funding

We provide one to one support to:

  • help you understand your role as a kinship carer
  • promote your mental and physical wellbeing
  • promote the needs and development of the child you care for
  • help you understand and manage the child’s behaviour
  • explain council procedures, work with other professionals and support you to attend meetings
  • help you manage family relationships and family time
  • help you answer questions from the child and share their life story
  • ensure carers and young people understand and prepare for changes and transitions in their lives
  • advocate for you and your family’s needs
