Our Communities, Our Choices
Communities in Moray are being given the chance to have a say in how resources are allocated in their area through a new platform called Our Communities, Our Choices.
Our Communities, Our Choices is Moray Council's online platform for Participatory Budgeting - a democratic process which empowers people and communities to have a greater say in how public money is spent.
Along with public events, the new platform will empower everyone from community groups to individual service users to get involved in local decision making by putting forwards ideas and voting for options that will make a difference in their community.
A number of Our Communities, Our Choices exercises will be undertaken throughout Moray, enabling local people to be more involved in decision-making.
Participatory Budgeting can be carried out in lots of different ways ranging from pop-ups and community events to digital experiences. Online Participatory Budgeting and online voting will be done via Our Communities, Our Choices. You can find more detail on the individual exercises running at any time by going directly to Our Communities, Our Choices .
The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) and the Scottish Government are supporting Participatory Budgeting as a tool for involving communities and as a way of building democracy locally. COSLA and The Democratic Society have produced a video about Mainstreaming Participatory Budgeting - 'Towards the Mainstream'
If you would like more information on Participatory Budgeting the PB Scotland Website has a whole range of resources available.
