FOI Request - Council Art Collection
Under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, I request the following information:
(1) A list of all artwork owned by the council with:
a. The most recent valuation (if any) of each piece;
b. Whether the piece is exhibited in public, whether it is in storage.
(2) The total cost to the council of insuring all its artwork listed under (1) for the last financial year.
(1) The artwork held by the museums service, including the civic collections, amounts to just over 1,000 works, including items from the Peter Anson collection. Other than a few paintings in council HQ, the registrars in Keith and the Tolbooth, Forres, none of this is currently displayed although there are proposals to display a selection of Peter Anson paintings at the Falconer Museum.
Museum artefacts, including the above painting, are listed in the museum catalogue on the Moray Council's website www.moray.gov.uk.
In addition those works in oil are available at www.bbc.co.uk/yourpaintings as part of the Public Catalogue Foundation initiative.
The libraries service has a loan collection of works by local artists. These are listed within the Talis Prism catalogue available on the council's website.
For security reasons we do not list the value or location of items held in storage.
(2) Cost of insuring artworks £2008.40
