Volunteer Opportunities - Elgin Area

All of our volunteering opportunities require either a PVG (Buddies and Day Services) or Standard Disclosure (Alarm Responders) which will be paid for by Moray Council. We also require volunteers to be reliable and committed, trustworthy and respectful, able to maintain boundaries and follow policies and procedures. Training is available including Adult Protection.

Social/Exercise Buddy – ref EL89 (re-opened 20/2/19)

When – 2 hours once a week
Role – To support lady to attend activities (female only)
Tasks – To support lady to attend activities in the local community. To help improve physical wellbeing. To provide companionship and to help reduce isolation.
Skills required – An awareness of the difficulties experienced by people with learning difficulties desirable but not essential.

Role – Community Alarm responder/keyholder for a lady – must live within 30 minutes travel time
Tasks – call and check well being of person who has activated alarm
Skills required – Understanding, calm in difficult situations, level headed

When – 2 hours once a fortnight
Role – To visit with lady in her own home
Tasks – To visit with lady in her own home providing social contact over cuppa and chat. To go out for coffee if health permits
Skills required – An awareness of the difficulties experienced by people with mobility difficulties desirable but not essential.

Activities/Walking Buddy – ref EL257 (reopened 25/4/22)

When – 2 hours once a week
Role – To support gentleman to go out in the community
Tasks – To support gentleman to attend groups or visit places that are of interest to him eg motor museum, wildlife. To provide social contact.

Gardening Support – ref EL258 (reopened 10/4/18)

When – To be arranged
Role – To improve the gardens of people in supported accommodation
Tasks – To help make accessible areas for residents and to create a sensory garden.
Skills required – An understanding of gardening and creating new areas of interest.

When – 1 ½ hours once a week
Role – To visit with lady and support to go out walking
Tasks – To visit with lady and support to go out walking and to go for a coffee To provide additional social contact
Skills required – An awareness of the difficulties experienced by people with mental health issues desirable but not essential

Tasks – To visit with gentleman and support to access activities in the local community. To provide some respite from his caring responsibilities.

Skills required – An awareness of the difficulties experienced by people with learning difficulties, epilepsy and a visual impairment desirable but not essential.

Tasks – To visit with gentleman and support him to de-clutter his home. To have coffee and chat, providing social contact.
Skills required – Patience, good communication skills and an awareness of Autism desirable but not essential

Skills required – An awareness of difficulties experienced by people with visual and hearing impairments, mobility difficulties and a learning disability desirable but not essential

Tasks – To visit with lady and support out in the community, to explore local activities that may be of interest to her
Skills required – An awareness of the difficulties experienced by people with Huntington’s Disease, mental health issues and mobility difficulties desirable but not essential.

Tasks – To visit with gentleman and support to go walking in the local community. To provide social contact over cuppa and chat.
