General Information Use of Plainstones, Elgin

The use of the Plainstones, which are located in the centre of Elgin are administered by the Moray Council who are keen to support events within the area and recognises these as an important part of community life. Find more information regarding markets and non-commercial events.

Please note: Permission for use of the site is required for ALL events and markets that take place on the Plainstones.

Separate permission is required for trading, public charitable collections, public processions, selling of alcohol, playing amplified music or the provision of public entertainment e.g. fairground rides etc, erection of banners and other activities for which a licence is required from The Moray Council.

Applying to use the Plainstones 

Applications for use of Elgin Plainstones require to be made at least 28 days before the proposed event date.

On receipt of a completed form, a Development Officer will liaise with the Roads Section, Environmental Health, Development Planning, Grampian Police and Fire Services. If no objections are received, permission is granted subject to standard conditions (PDF).

Please note however that this permission only constitutes authority to use the Plainstones area. Anyone undertaking any activity that may require a licence or other form of permission is responsible for ensuring that the appropriate licence/permission is in place

If you do require a licence there is a minimum time requirement to enable the process of permissions and licences and it may take longer than 28 days.
