FOI Request - Pupil Equity Fund Central Costs

Request 101002643129

1. Has the local authority ever taken a proportion of the Pupil Equity Funding received by schools in its area as a contribution towards central PEF support costs?
2. If the answer to question 1 is yes, for each year since PEF was introduced, what was the (a) percentage of the total PEF received by local authority schools that went towards these central costs each year and (b) the value of this contribution each year.
3. If the answer to question 1 is yes, please list any schools that have been exempt from making a contribution and the reason for this, broken down by each year since the introduction of PEF.

Response 15-12-2020

Please see table below for response to questions 1 and 2:

Academic Year PEF Grant Funding Central PEF Support costs recharged Central PEF Support Costs as a Percentage of Grant
2017-18 1,270,800 0 0.00%
2018-19 1,341,960 7,431 0.55%
2019-20 1,418,040 13.569 0.97%

3. The Central PEF Support Costs were for a HR member of staff to support an increased workload in recruitment/staff changes. This cost was recharged monthly - the basis used was 1.5% of the monthly staff costs for each location. No schools were exempted from this charge but some would not have incurred any central recharge if they did not use PEF funding to employ additional staff.
