FOI Request - Covid-19 Support for Breweries

Request 101002516302

Could you tell me whether breweries are eligible to access the Covid-19 support for businesses operating in the retail, leisure and hospitality sectors through your council -- specifically the £25,000 grant, provided they meet the requirements of having a rateable value of less than £51,000, and the year-long business rates exemption.

If only some and not all breweries are eligible for this support, please could you outline the conditions under which a brewery is eligible.

Response 02-09-2020

The circumstances of each brewery will be different, but we can advise the below.

In regard to the Retail Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund, we can confirm that Moray Council is administering the Business Grant scheme on behalf of the Scottish Government in accordance with the guidance that has been published by it.  This may be found in Scottish Government Finance Circular 08/20 (as updated).  Any brewery which applies to the council and satisfies the criteria outlined in this circular will receive a business grant.

In regard to an award of exemption from the payment of rates on 2020-21, we can confirm that Moray Council is awarding exemption in accordance with the provisions of the Non-Domestic Rates (Coronavirus Reliefs)(Scotland) Regulations 2020.  Any brewery which satisfies the criteria outlined in this Scottish Statutory Instrument will receive exemption from the payment of rates in 2020-21.
