FOI Request - Equal Opportunities
I am writing to request information in the context of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
As you will be aware, public authorities in Scotland have a duty in terms of the Scotland Act 1998 to meet the requirements set out in Schedule L2 of the Act :
to make arrangements with a view to securing that the functions of the office-holder or authority are carried out with due regard to the need to meet the equal opportunity requirements
The Act defines equal opportunities as :
the prevention, elimination or regulation of discrimination between persons on grounds of sex or marital status, on racial grounds, or on grounds of disability, age, sexual orientation, language or social origin, or of other personal attributes, including beliefs or opinions, such as religious beliefs or political opinions.
1. My request is that you provide me with a copy of reports submitted to your Council which details what steps you have taken and continue to take to meet this duty in relation to the function of the Council as an employer and in relation to the elimination of any discrimination by the Council as an employer on the grounds of the political opinions of your workforce, and those who have applied to join your workforce, and what future work is to be undertaken by the Council to meet this part of the duty and in relation to these grounds.
2. I also request that you provide me with a copy of any reports made to the Council in relation to how you have been linking work on meeting the Scotland Act 1998 duty with the general equality duty you have under the Equality Act 2010.
