Youth Justice

General Information

The Moray Youth Justice Team works with young offenders aged 8-18 years. The work is directed by the Scottish Government Youth Justice Plan as well as, at a local level, the Moray Youth Justice Strategy Group.

The key objectives are to reduce youth offending and the impact of this behaviour on communities throughout Moray.

The service utilises a variety of intervention techniques including 

• Restorative Justice
• Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABC)
• Anger Management
• Safer Lives Programme
• Independent Living Programme
• Mental Wellbeing Programme
• Time to Grow Programme
• The Ross Programme
• OINTOC Programme
• Parenting Programme
• Self Esteem through Outdoor Activities

The team also offer Intensive Support and Monitoring Service (ISMS).  This programme is used when the Children’s Reporter and Chief Social Work Officer agree that a young person meets the criteria for secure care arrangements.

Our key partners include area social work teams, education, police and our voluntary organisations. The service is Moray wide.

Moray Youth Justice Remit

• To deliver and develop Youth Justice interventions
• To record and evaluate service delivery
• To liaise with the Youth Justice Strategy Group and Scottish Government in the implementation of procedure and guidance
• To undertake the management of finances and resources including training and support

Referral Process

Young people are referred to Moray Youth Justice via the Children’s Reporter and the Young Offenders Review Group.

The Strategy Network

We support young people to become involved with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and My World of Work.

Moray Youth Justice works in partnership with Action for Children, Aberlour Child Care Trust, Anti Social Behaviour Unit, Drug and Alcohol Team, Health Promotions, Grampian Police Youth Justice Management Unit.

We jointly work with Children and Families Teams, Through Care and After Care Team, Criminal Justice Social Work services and Education.
