Grit Bins in Moray
Grit Bins/Grit Piles have been provided at strategic locations around Moray inline with our Winter Maintenance Policy. The policy states that Grit Bin or Grit Piles can be placed on low priority areas, providing they don't obstruct resident or road users
These may be used by anyone to assist with gritting of public roads and footways, footpaths and cycle tracks. However these are not for use on private roads, paths and driveways, instead salt supplies and grit bins can by purchased from DIY stores, builder's merchants and other local shops.
We do not place Grit Bins in rural locations, however at areas where there is a need (steep gradients), we have placed piles of grit (Grit Piles) on the road verges to assist with gritting of the public road network.
Additional information can be be found on our Winter Maintenance FAQ page
The location of Road Maintenance Grit Bins can be viewed in the map below, or alternatively, you also can view a list of our grit bins in Appendix G of the Winter Service Operational Plan
If you cannot find your grit bin on the map, this is likely because the Grit Bin your are trying to locate is not the responsibility of Roads Maintenance. You should therefore contact the responsible council service area directly (e.g. education within schools, lands & parks within parks/cemeteries, housing within council housing areas, estates within industrial estates etc)
